Culinary Medicine

Culinary medicine is the practice of using real food to restore health and improve long-term quality of life. Through our Fierce Foods Academy culinary education, positive social support, and rigorous nutrition research, it’s our goal to turn food into a positive, beneficial, and accessible facet of any lifestyle medicine intervention to improve quality of life and support disease prevention.

Fierce Foods Academy

Our Fierce Foods Academy culinary medicine program is a family-focused culinary medicine class designed to empower families to incorporate healing, nutrient-dense foods into their family's wellness plan. Through arts, crafts, play, and cooking, kids learn about fighting bad guys (colds, germs, and even cancer), super-boosting their good guys, and having fun, all with delicious “fierce foods.” In every class, parents are also educated on the reasons and skills needed for buying, preparing, and serving “fierce foods.”

Culinary Medicine Collaborative

Structured, hands-on culinary education is recognized as a necessary condition for dietary health behavior change but, due to issues ranging from space challenges to safety concerns to the lack of well-vetted curriculum, its implementation is limited and uneven within hospital settings. In an effort to provide high-impact and far-reaching culinary medicine programs in pediatric healthcare, we've brought together an innovative collaborative to build this pioneering culinary medicine program and study the use of the Fierce Foods mobile teaching kitchen unit in the hospital setting.
